Holly and Hay

Its been a fun weekend for me.  I got to hang out with family and eat (which is always a plus).  And I had a completely unexpected photoshoot with Holly.  I saw this field with newly harvest hay stacked high as I was on the way to her house, so i was like "hey let's go take pictures."  She kindly consented and we got some great images.  And I really like the logo i used, i think it might stick.

Doubt

Doubt.  I think we all struggle with it at one point or another.  Me especially in the past few days.  What is it about the world that makes us doubt ourselves whenever our aspirations are too high.  When we want something a little too much.  Doubt comes along to steal it away.  To push what we desire a little more out of reach.  There might even be times when doubts are advisable.  When you should question your motives, decisions, beliefs, and goals.  But most of the time I think doubt just convinces us that the possible is impossible.  Doubt refuses to let us dream, and to let those dreams become reality.  But I'm beginning to think that I'd rather fail big time, fall flat on my face, than to waste my time doubting myself.  I'm just gonna go live.

I've trying my hand at night photography and its proving quite tricky.  I've been out the last few nights with my camera and friends just snapping some pictures and messing around.  They picture above is one of my more successful attempts.

Graduation Shoot

I had some friends hire me to get some shots of their son's graduation a little while ago.  That kind of stuff always makes me nervous when I first agree to it, because graduations are one of those gigs where there are no do-overs.  No "oops sorry missed that shot, lets try it again."  Plus I don't have a very good telephoto lens at the moment so I was a little worried about how the material would turn out but I really like what I got.  Here's a few of my favorites:

Gettin' Lucky

So I've found that my best pictures usually happen by accident.  Very rarely do I carefully plan something and get perfection.  I guess that's the beauty of any art form.  Just chance and coincidence and you end up with a great image, painting, sculpture, etc.  That's what happened during my recent skateboarding project.  I just took a few shots of my friends in between tricks and I ended up with some good unexpected stuff.  Here's one example:

Skateboarding

I live in Porterville, Ca.  There isn't much to do here aside from hanging out with friends, maybe some bowling, and for the younger generation, the rebels and the cool kids, well they like to hang out at our humble little skate park.  Since my job freelancing for our local newspaper during the summer doesn't really keep me as busy as I'd like, I have a lot of free time on my hands.  So, recently I decided to pass my time taking pics of the skateboarding scene here in Porterville.  Here are two shots I'm particularly proud of:

This one I really like and i got to use the 5-in-one reflector i just bought.  I highly recommend one.  They're awesome.

New Beginning

Well I think its about time I started blogging again especially since I've found that I have so much to say and share with anyone interested.  So this will be my first blog post! This blog is mainly to share my journey as a photographer as I develop and grow but being me, I can't help but sprinkle in doses of sarcasm and humor.  Hey I might even throw in some of my insightful and meaningless thoughts and advice haha.  Anyway thanks for reading and taking an interest in what I'm doing.  Peace out!!!!
